How exercise can help you sleep better

There’s nothing worse than feeling tired and drained throughout the day and then struggle to get to sleep at night.

Did you know that working up a sweat during the day can have an impact on how well you sleep at night?

If you’re having trouble getting to sleep or staying asleep at night, you may not be getting enough exercise. If you have an office job and are spending up to eight hours a day sitting down, your sleep may be even further affected.

A brisk walk may be an easy way to improve your chances of falling asleep easily when you go to bed each night. Recruit a friend to join you or listen to your favourite music to make the process fun and easier to stick to. If you’re going in the morning, prepare your workout gear the night before so that when your alarm goes off, you can throw on your sneakers and run out the door!

Insufficient sleep threatens our health by contributing to chronic diseases, such as diabetes, cardiovascular disease and obesity. Even adding a 10 min walk everyday could improve your likelihood of a good night’s sleep and help with your overall health. Simple exercises done in bed can also help with the quality of your sleep.

Sleepyhead’s mattress selector is designed to help you find the best mattress to suit all your needs, whether you are after less partner disturbance, something to tackle your allergies, or support to help ease aches and pains and ensure you get a great night’s sleep.
