Sleepyhead Zero is New Zealand’s first mattress designed to be recycled. All mattresses have some parts that can be recycled, however, we've developed Zero to take this a step further. At the end of its life, simply return Zero to where you bought it, the mattress then comes back to us to be cleverly turned into carpet underlay for Kiwi homes.

We've used Ecoloft fibres in Zero for an eco-friendly sustainable mattress. Plastics destined for landfill are
shredded into microscopic pieces, melted down and processed into a soft fibre that forms part of the mattress quilt.

As long as your old mattress is clean, when it’s returned to Sleepyhead, the foam is reused for carpet underlay. Sleepyhead will turn your Zero recyclable mattress into flooring underlay. We're also exploring other cool uses for the materials recycled from a Zero mattress.
Hygiene standards mean we can’t recycle stained or dirty mattresses. We recommend you use a waterproof mattress protector to keep your bed clean and dry. That way, it’s likely we will be able to take your Zero mattress back at the end of its life and repurpose it into underlay products.
Take your good condition Zero mattress back to the retailer you purchased it from. If you have moved or the retailer no longer is there, call 0800 SLEEPS (753377) to find out how to get your mattress back to Sleepyhead to be recycled.
